Community Connection 2019

For the 2019 OC-ALA Community Connection Event, the Chapter has adopted 2 families through the Share Our Selves Adopt A Family Program. Share Our Selves is a non-profit that services low-income and homeless families in Orange County. This year is the 50th Annual Adopt A Family Program and the OC-ALA is proud to have adopted two very deserving families. The details of the families can be seen below.

The goal of this event is to provide these families with gifts and other necessities that will help to make their holiday season bright. The OC-ALA will be fund raising and accepting gifts in order to provide these gifts as well as money for these families to be able to have a nice holiday dinner. As you will see from the descriptions of the families, they truly are just hoping to have a few presents for the kids and some of the essentials for the adults. Along with fundraising and purchasing the gifts and gift cards for this family, we will also be getting together to sort and wrap these gifts for the family on December 14th at 9:00 am. If you would like to get involved, there are several ways to do so:

1.       Individuals, Law Firms, or Businesses can donate money so the chapter can purchase the gifts for the families. The sponsorship levels are:

a.     Star Sponsor  $250  - DONATE HERE

b.     Treasure Sponsor  $100  - DONATE HERE

c.     Stocking Stuffer Sponsor  $50     - DONATE HERE

d.     Helping Hand Sponsor  $25     - DONATE HERE

There is no limit to the number of donations. Any excess funds will be donated to the Adopt A Family Program on the behalf of the OC-ALA.

2.       Reach out to Kelly Hess ( to get a specific item or items to purchase and to coordinate drop-off.

3.       Show up on Saturday, December 14th at 9:00 am at Newmeyer & Dillion LLP to help sort, wrap, label, and box the gifts for the family. We will need all the help that we can get as we expect to have many gifts that need to be wrapped. Please bring any wrapping supplies that you wish to donate as well. We will also need large boxes to help in transporting the gifts to the drop-off location. Be sure to register for this event at the bottom of the page if you plan to help sort, wrap and box.

The year we have adopted two families. The first is a family who is relying on a single mother as their sole provider. Their father left and has had no contact with the children. The family is sharing an apartment with the mother's parents and another family. All support is welcomed this season.

We have also adopted Eduardo and Maria who are struggling to raise their four children. Maria has a part time position at the children’s school and Eduardo works very hard at two jobs. They are paying off some previous debts and are hopeful that they will soon be able to afford a place of their own as they currently live with Maria’s parents, Arturo and Francisca. They would all so welcome some cheer and encouragement this Christmas!
